Rhino mother Nane (Diceros bicornis) and her little baby affectionately make contact with one another. The mother-child relationship is established. The little bundle of joy is becoming more curious about her surroundings every day (born  on 13 July 2013 at Krefeld Zoo)!

The five-day-old „Hörnchen“ – a species which is classed by conservationists as critically endangered – is the fourth calf of Nane. Her arrival is another step towards sustaining a black rhino population which, in the wild, has been devastated by poachers.
