The family is a haven in a heartless world (Christopher Lasch)!
The Pygmy marmosets (Cebuella pygmaea) are the smallest marmosets and one of the smallest of all primates. They live mostly in the rainforests of South America with a few in southeast Africa.
The tiny, expressive face of this New World monkey is set inside a halo of gold-tinged, salt-and-pepper fur. These agile primates are extremely curious and always busy – you’ll be charmed :o). These little beings live in Rostock Zoo.
After the first 24 hours of life, the infants are carried by the adult male or juveniles and returned to the adult female for nursing. This practice relieves the mother and gives siblings practice for parenthood.
Pygmy marmosets are listed as special concern or somewhat threatened because of habitat destruction and the pet trade.
